Being controversial when blogging. A double edged sword?

I thought I’d throw a curveball at the blogosphere. Just to see what would happen. I run Linux, infact I’ve just finished installing the latest version of Linux Mint - Daryna on this machine. The blog post I put out there was designed for traffic, and it worked.

I posted it to Digg, (note in the Linux section where those guys hangout) and what followed was a whole load of grumpy old men baying for blood. So did the effort pay off? Did I lose credibility. Probably. Do I care. No not really, considering that I managed to get a load of new subscribers to my RSS feed. Im guessing they must have liked some of my other stuff. Which is fine. I can deal with that. I can win them round, and tell them I’ll never do it again. Prevent them feeling cheated etc.

Note to self - if you are going to be controversial deliberately, be prepared for the backlash. But it can help to bring them out of the woodwork, if you are looking for some comment love. I got my first comment on that post, which taught me something. Blogging posts need not only to be informative, but to ask questions, or be opinionated to provoke a response.
