In the financial world people invest in stock because the investment is likely to earn more money through returns.
In the world of blogging, the investment comes from the time people take to read your posts, and the returns that they get are the following:
Entertainment Give people something to digest that they haven’t seen before, even if its a new angle on an old concept. And don’t forget to occasionally pepper your blog with snippets of fun! Whether that be humorous videos or pictures in your sector or not.
Education If you can’t entertain (or aren’t in a joker mood – today I’m feeling a bit peaky. A good old fashioned Christmas cold has caught a grip – So sympathy please people), make sure you educate your visitors with something they didn’t already know, or hadn’t already thought about. I’m pretty sure a good percentage of the people that visit this site are tech savvy, therefore the scope for incoming links is pretty good.
Link Love As a bit of an experiment I’ve decided to put up a dedicated page, containing links to each and everyone of my readers. As stated in this post, people in general are pretty much self-obsessed, and will revisit you if you give them some reason to. I want to reward you with link dividends. Just like a good stock investment. And the more you comment, the further up the list you shall travel. If you are a big investor, you get more dividends. Simple economics really. I plan on somewhere along the line automating the process. So if anyone knows any wordpress plugins that I can hack to pieces let me know.
Its also worth bearing in mind that people also take note of stock that is 1) moving fast and 2) showing signs of growth early on.
We can translate that to 1) regular posting of content 2). Making sure you get yourself noticed as much as possible.
