Yahoo FireEagle Launched
View all posts by Paul AnthonyI’ve just received an email through from the FireEagle team to let me know that FireEagle is now up and running for the general public.
Basically, what FireEagle does, is to set co-ordinates for a person at any one time, allowing you to update your location from multiple devices, including mobile devices such as the iPhone.
This is a project I’m particularly excited about from the Yahoo team, as it is going to play an integral role in the advancement of the mobile web, and in web apps which have a need for geo-tagging. It of course allows you to aggregate your location via RSS and has a full API available.
The sort of things I can see this being used for include helping to find missing children - with auto geo-tagging enabled on their mobile phones, or an application to locate the cheapest petrol price in your area - and this is only the tip of the ice berg.
Geo-tagging mashup anyone?
