Forum signatures may drive traffic to your site but they have been devalued for a good while now.
Participating in a forum just to get hundreds of forum signatures from the same site just for SEO purposes isn’t the best use of your time. It’s 2009 now, Google isn’t a fool.

I take your point re CSS galleries especially if it’s a design orientated, but I’m cautious about submitting non relevant client sites to these sites.

RE: the signature links – I wasn’t aware of this? Any research on the subject?

With CSS galleries, alot of them have high PR value, and follow their outgoing links. Exposure is exposure, and whilst alot of visitors bounce, some of them don’t. Particularly if your site is design orientated in any way this can be a great way to get your brand in front of other potential link givers.

Participating in forums and joining the community is certainly a good way to build authority.

Signatures links in SEO has been devalued and certain forums will have the signature no followed.

What sort of value do CSS galleries provide, don’t they just send bounce rates high sky and skew your analytics? Shouldn’t this be set against any SEO benefits.

Directories still provide good value, niche and targeted directories is still IMHO a very good way to promote sites.

If you haven’t thought about a video strategy then it’s time to get once in place.
